6 Overlooked Moving Tips
From packing up your closet to cleaning out your fridge, it’s easy to get wrapped up in last-minute to-dos in preparation for a move. There always seems to be something you forgot to do, but the team of Forest Properties’ apartments in Florida is here to share a bit of advice to reduce these moments! From inspecting delivered furniture to knowing which boxes to unpack first, take advantage of our 6 overlooked moving tips.
Double Check Your To-Do List
Moving trucks reserved? Check. Hallway closets packed? Check. Fueled on coffee to get you through this move? Double Check!
In order to keep your move on track without missing a beat, keep an updated apartment moving checklist in hand to get you prepped for the big day. Here are some points that are often overlooked:
- Inspect furniture and boxes before the movers leave
- Reserve a storage unit in the Bradenton area if necessary
- Keep important documents (ex: birth certificates, passports) on your person at all times
- Activate your renter’s insurance plan (ideally before you move so you don’t have a lapse in coverage)
- Update friends and family of your new address (so they can send an apartment warming gift!)
Welcome to Lake Lucerne Towers
Mix the vibrant culture of downtown Orlando with pristine apartment living at Lake Lucerne Towers. With one and two bedrooms available, enjoy the best of Florida outside your door.
Pick Up Dry Cleaning
If you’re a regular visitor to the laundromat, don’t forget to stop by and pick up your latest batch of clothes, bedding sets, and curtains. This is especially helpful for renters relocating from one state to another – you don’t want anything left behind!
Change Your Address Before You Move
Many apartment renters tend to change over their address once they’re settled into their new home, but checking off this task 2-3 days beforehand can save you a few headaches and delayed bills. Not only will this give you time to enjoy unpacking without running extra errands, but you’ll start to receive mail to your new apartment at Lake Lucerne Towers in a timely fashion!
Do a Walkthrough
Make a walkthrough appointment with your current and future landlord.
A new apartment at Ranch Lake is exciting, but don’t forget to give your current apartment a quick cleaning before handing in the keys. You want to make sure your landlord doesn’t subtract money from your security deposit for common apartment damages you may have been able to address yourself. If you have the time, clean after you’ve moved everything out – it’s much easier than sweeping between mountains of boxes!
Once you have the keys to your new apartment in Florida, do a walkthrough, with the landlord if possible. Check the functionality of light switches, faucets, kitchen appliances, and door/window locks.
Unpack the Essentials First
If only you could remember where the scissors and measuring tape are! Besides properly labeling your boxes as you pack, make a special notation distinguishing where the “essentials” are. Here are a few items we recommend you unpack first and keep handy:
- Toilet paper
- Handsoap
- Water bottles
- Cleaning supplies and garbage bags
- An extra change of clothes
Child Proof Your New Space
Once you’ve unloaded your moving van and have placed boxes in their designated rooms, it’s time to let your little ones explore their new home at Audubon Cove. But before you give them free reign, remember to childproof your apartment. Properly cover electrical outlets, secure bookshelves and heavy pieces of furniture, secure cabinet doors, and so on.
