August Events in the Sarasota-Bradenton Area
As we enjoy the last few weeks of summer vacation and fill upcoming weekends with local events for the whole family, there are plenty of things to do this month in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. From vintage markets to tasty samples of the area’s food scene, here are just a few August events we’re most looking forward to!
The 5th Annual Jumbo Cupcake Eating Contest – August 12th
It takes a lot of willpower to say no to a cupcake, but what would you do if a jumbo cupcake was placed in front of you?
Get your sweet tooth ready as we prepare for the 5th Annual Jumbo Cupcake Eating Contest in Sarasota! On Saturday the 12th at 12:00 noon, all ages are welcome to participate in the event. Whoever eats their jumbo cupcake in 10 minutes will win a wonderful prize! These extra large sweet treats are baked fresh (and wickedly good) at Heavenly Cupcakes.
Participants can choose their favorite cupcake flavor – all of which can be made gluten-free by request:

- Chocolate Chip

Yoga for Beginners – August 17th
Breathe in, breathe out. End your day with a relaxing yoga class, specifically designed for beginners by yogi Linda Watterworth. Whether you’re looking to decompress after a long work day, would like to increase flexibility and strength, or are looking for a midweek activity with friends, this free yoga class is being held at Goodwill Manasota – Honore on Thursday, August 17th, from 6pm-7pm. Shabby Chic Vintage Market – August 19th

Audition for the The Sarasota Medieval Fair – August 19-20th
Hear ye, hear ye! Is it your time to shine among the fairest Medieval event on the gulf coast? From Saturday the 19th through Sunday the 20th at 9:00 am, The Sarasota Medieval Fair will be holding auditions at the Sarasota Fairgrounds happening in November!
The Fair invites one and all, young and old, to bring their best Medieval-inspired skill and themed dress to the casting call. Be sure to print out the audition form and bring it along on the day you choose to audition (you only need to come one day!) All ages are welcome to try out for the general cast, but children under 12 must have a parent present.
