Apartment-Friendly Workouts
No gym equipment? No problem! You can still get in a good workout if you decide to stay in your Brook Village West apartment and skip visiting the gym itself. After all, it’s all about being creative and making the most of what’s available to you. Here are some full-body exercises that can be modified from beginner to advanced that require nothing but your own body weight:
Pushups: Lay horizontally on the ground with your hands flat under your shoulders. Life your upper body up while keeping a straight back, and lower yourself again.
Planks: Lay horizontally with your upper body propped on your forearms. Lift your body up while keeping a straight back, engage your core, and tighten your glutes for at least 30 seconds.
Leg Lunges: A lunge is a single-leg bodyweight exercise that works your hips, glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core and the hard-to-reach muscles of your inner thighs.
Heel Touches: A great exercise for the obliques and gives a really good burn. Lay flat on your back and alternate your fingertips touching your heels. Right hand to right heel, come to center, and then left hand to left heel.
Master the Burpee
Burpees are one of the most effective-and crazy-challenging-exercises out there. While this particular may be tough, it’s guaranteed to make you break a sweat and can be completed anywhere. Here are the proper steps to complete a burpee – how many will you do?
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, keep your weight in your heels, and place your arms at your sides.
- Push your hips back, bend your knees, and lower your body into a squat.
- Next, place your hands on the floor directly in front of, and just inside of, your feet. Shift your body weight onto your hands.
- Jump your feet back to softly land on the balls of your feet and form a plank position. Your body should form a straight line from your head to heels. Be careful not to let your back sag or your rear end stick up in the air.
- Jump your feet back so that they land just outside of your hands.
- Reach your arms over your head and explosively jump up into the air. Use this as an energy burst! Land and immediately lower back into another squat for your next rep.
