5 Summer Events in Bradenton/Sarasota
Summertime in Florida is all about kicking back and relaxing, but there’s always time to take part in a new local activity and have some fun! Below is a list of a few events in the Bradenton and Sarasota areas of Florida for residents of Forest Properties to take part in. From rocking out to favorite tunes to making time for exercise and ice pops, fill up your summer months with these favorites.
Sarasota Summer Jam
Kick off your summer with a few favorite tunes at the 46th Anniversary Sarasota Summer Jam event on Saturday, July 27th. Rock on and relive your favorite memories of Watkins Glen Summer Jam with live performances. A few favorites this year include Tony Tyler performing music of the Allman Brothers, and Ship of Fools recreating the sounds of the Ungrateful Dead. General Admission tickets are priced at $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Get your ticket from the White Buffalo Saloon.
Kids Summer Beach Runs
Does it feel like your kids save up their summer energy for you to keep them entertained? Relieve yourself of running around by signing up your family for The Kids Summer Beach Run series. These free 1-mile beach runs are held at two locations for families to take part in:
- Every Tuesday through July 30th at Siesta Beach on Siesta Key near the pavilion
- Wednesdays through July 31st at Brohard Beach, next to the Venice Fishing Pier
Besides getting some exercise and enjoying the beachfront, your little runner can earn a custom t-shirt to take home after completing 4 runs! And for the little ones, there is nothing more exciting than a t-shirt prize. Race registration begins at 5:30pm on race day, and the event kicks off promptly at 6:30pm.

Free Library Events
While school may be out for a handful of weeks, there’s plenty of opportunity to keep the kids entertained and engaged throughout the summer. There are a variety of free library events in Sarasota for Ranch Lake residents to enjoy. Here are a few themed events we love:
Read with the Dogs: Kids between the ages of 5-11 are welcome to join story time and read with certified pet therapy dogs every Monday throughout the summer at Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Public Library.
Gift of the Animals: Ignite creativity and learning at the Shelby Public Library! The library has dozens of events happening weekly, including a “Gift of the Animals session happening on July 15th and 22nd from 2:30-3:30pm! Kids will be taken to a new continent each session, learning about the animals that live there and the habitats they call home! Better yet, they will be able to take home the arts and crafts they make during the session.
Teen / Tween Gaming Days: Gulf Gate Library hosts gaming days for Teens and tweens all throughout the summer! This is a great way to help your kids meet new friends and get them up and out of the house. Teen gaming days are every Monday from 2-4pm, while tweens (hint: 9-12 years old) can get gaming on Wednesdays at the same time.To see even more library events, check out the library website! Back to School Bash
Get your kids excited to go back to school! The Westfield Sarasota Square Back to School Bash is sure to get them in the learning spirit. With hands-on activities, interactive scavenger hunts, face painting, photo booths, princess makeover stations, and plenty of arts and crafts to keep little hands busy, check out this free event on Sunday, July 28th from 12-4pm. The event is about 20 minutes for residents of The Lexington to take part in.
