10 Things Everyone Forgets When Moving
Packing up one space and moving to a new Forest Properties apartment takes packing and planning. Regardless of how many times you’ve glanced at your moving checklist, there’s bound to be a few tasks that slip your mind throughout the moving process. Even though we can’t read your mind, here are 10 things everyone forgets when moving that may (hopefully!) lessen your to-do list!
1. Label Moving Boxes
While this may sound like one of the most basic steps of packing your Florida apartment, labeling your boxes before filling them is a lifesaver. This will help you keep track of the contents in each box as you pack, unpack, and load up the moving truck.
2. Return Library Books
If you prefer holding a paperback book instead of an e-reader, don’t forget to return any borrowed books to your local library. Look through your bookshelf, bedside table, and backpacks for any lingering books. In fact, if you find that you have a collection of books you no longer need, ask your library if they accept donations. This is a great way to give back to your local community and lessen the burden of heavy boxes as you move into your new apartment at The Lexington in Sarasota.
3. Return Keys
Don’t forget to hand in all copies of spare keys you have. If you’re relocating to a different state, make sure you’ve returned keys to places like your office and gym locker.
4. Cancel Your Gym Membership
While this tip applies to apartment dwellers who are relocating to different towns, counties, or states, be sure to cancel your gym membership to avoid additional membership fees. There’s no good in paying for the gym if you don’t live near it!
Good to Know: if you are relocating to Ranch Lake Apartments in Bradenton Florida, there’s no need to join a new gym! This luxury apartment complex offers state-of-the-art fitness amenities, such as:
- Outdoor pool
- Fitness center
- Basketball and tennis courts
- Putting green
- Paved roadways for bicycling

5. Change Your Address
Changing your address a few days before you move is beneficial to the overall moving process. Contact your local post office to inform them of your new address and request a mail forwarding system so you don’t miss any mail, magazines, bills, etc. You’ll need to provide paperwork and fill out some forms, so give yourself enough time to sit down and make your new address official. While you’re at it, contact the DMV to update your residence for your driver’s license, too.
6. Pick Up Toilet Paper
Trust us… you won’t want to forget a few rolls for your first night in the new place.
7. Set Up Renters Insurance
Some apartment complexes require renter’s insurance, and it’s a good idea to set this up before you step foot in your new place. Rates vary across ZIP Codes, but one apartment insurance provider we love is Lemonade. Here’s a brief rundown of the service and mobile app:
- Renters insurance starts at $5 per month
- The sign-up process takes 90 seconds
- User friendly mobile app
8. Check Your Mailbox One Last Time
Before you hit the road with more moving boxes than you can shake a stick at, one of the last things you should do is check your mailbox. If you live in an apartment complex, check your secure mailbox in case any packages have been delivered to you before the big move.
9. Transfer Utilities
Staying on top of your apartment utilities will ensure that your new apartment at Lake Lucerne Towers in Orlando is set up. Contact utility providers, such as Internet and cable, to establish dates when your current services will be terminated. At the same time, let them know when you’ll need utilities turned on at your new place. You may need to make an appointment to set up Internet and cable, so keep this in mind and check this off your to do list sooner rather than later.\

10. Pick Up Dry Cleaning
Can’t remember the last time you dropped something off at the dry cleaner? Stop by or give them a call to see if you have any clothing that needs to be picked up before you move. It’s better to be safe than sorry (and without a suit for your next event!).
Whether you forgot to pack something or remembered at the very last minute, share your experiences of what you almost forgot when moving. Leave a friendly tip on Facebook!
